A beloved local brewery is preparing to bring high-quality craft beer and a little something extra to the Olde Kensington area this year. Wissahickon Brewing Co. will be bringing its signature drafts and kombucha production to the busy Philadelphia beer scene this summer, reports local media outlet Philly Voice.

The East Falls based brewery will be moving into a spacious building located at 1526 North American Street. The facility formerly housed Original 13 Ciderworks, and will allow Wissahickon Brewing space for the taproom, a kitchen, space for private events, and room for kombucha production.

Wissahickon Brewing Co. founder, Tim Gill, explains the appeal of the brand’s newest location, stating “Olde Kensington forms a triangle between the excitement going on in Fishtown and all the energy in Northern Liberties. We feel like we’re another point in the triangle. You just can’t ignore all the residential development going on — that all speaks to us as a great location for walk-up customers.”

The family owned and operated business has bought the assets of Inspired Brews Kombucha, which will help it gets its foot in the door with the specialty beverage. Gill confirmed for What Now Philadelphia  that “The ‘kombuchery’ production space will be on the first floor in a climate-controlled environment with plenty of windows to peek in on the magic happening inside.”

Kombucha production will not be the only way Wissahickon is broadening its horizons at the Kensington taproom. The new location will have a kitchen on-site, while the East Falls taproom relies on food trucks. Speaking of the menu, Gill assures future regulars they can look forward to “comfort food. But my wife is a nurse practitioner, and she won’t let us serve nothing but French fries and tater tots. There will be fresh foods, healthy foods, vegan varieties. Things you won’t feel guilty about eating and they’ll pair well with the beer, cider and kombuchas we’re serving.”
