If you’ve ever had a Wegmans open in or near your town, you’ve likely heard your family and neighbors rave about it. Residents of New Castle County, DE, and Bucks County, PA will soon have something to rave about when the regional grocery store opens new locations in their area.
The company’s website says it will be building a location “just outside the City of Wilmington at Lancaster Pike and Barley Mill Road in New Castle County.” The grocery store is a part of the Barley Mill Plaza at Route 141 (Centre Road) and Route 48 (Lancaster Pike) in Greenville, a mixed-use development that will be anchored by the Wegmans. The 84,000 sq. ft. location, which will be the first Wegmans in the state, is expected to open in the fall of 2022.
A Wegmans is also planned for Yardley, PA, as a part of another mixed-use development called Prickett Preserve at Edgewood at 930 Stony Hill Rd. A Wegmans spokesperson told What Now Philadelphia that the developer is getting ready to break ground on the 90,000 sq. ft. location and that there isn’t an anticipated opening date at this time.
Wegmans currently has 106 supermarkets in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. There are 18 locations in Pennsylvania and nine in New Jersey. The family-owned and operated company was started in 1916 in Rochester, NY.
