Federal Pizza, a concept from the Phoenix-based restaurant company Upward Projects, is getting ready to open a new location in northeast Phoenix at the northwest corner of Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road.

The company’s second site is set to move into the redevelopment of the Paradise Valley Mall early next year, according to Phoenix Business Journal. The new 4,243 square feet location is expected to break ground in early summer and will join several other tenants in the new mixed-use development, such as Whole Foods, Flower Child, TEN Sushi, Wren House Brewing, Trevor’s Liquors, Blanco and Life Time. Red Development is in charge of the overall project, called PV.

When the new location opens up early next year, customers can expect a larger space compared to the Central Avenue location, offering more beer on tape and a small market in the front of the restaurant, where various beers and other drinks will be for sale. The new Federal Piza will also offer pints of ice cream from Upward’s Churn brand in the same area. This will be the second concept Upwards Projects plans to open next year, as the company is also working on opening a new Postino location in the West Valley at Peoria Sports Complex.

“The team from Red called us … and it was a really unique opportunity, and we jumped on it because we really love that neighborhood,” Lauren Bailey, the CEO of Upward Projects, told the Business Journal. “They gave us carte blanche to design that building too, which is always really exciting for us to partner with people who care about design. I’m not a fan of trying to make new buildings look old. We’re trying to think about what is Federal Pizza 2.0 in this newer space. I want to sprinkle some fun ’70s vibes into this one. A little bit like I’m in my grandma’s basement in the ’70s, but not too overtly.”
