Macayo’s Mexican Food, the fast-growing Phoenix-based eatery, appears to be expanding in Avondale, located at 10220 W. McDowell Road, Site #160.

The company, owned by Kind Hospitality Group, recently applied for a liquor license to move into the former home of Native Grill & Wings. There is no exact opening date, but the company is undergoing several openings at the moment, including new sites coming to Queen Creek, at 24460 E Ocotillo Road and in a new Vistancia development at the corner of Vistancia Blvd and El Mirage Rd. Most recently, Macayo expanded to a new location in Litchfield Park at 19355 W. Indian School Road.

Kind Hospitality Group, led by CEO and owner Nava Singam, also applied for a liquor license for the upcoming Queen Creek restaurant at the same time as the new Avondale site. Both sites will likely open before the end of the year. The new Macayo’s Mexican Food in Avondale will sit in the Gateway Pavilions Shopping Mall, surrounded by other eateries and retailers. Considering how much foot traffic runs through the shopping center, this will be a perfect site for the company.

The new Litchfield Park site is the company’s 11th location in the Phoenix area. It’s an impressive accomplishment for the company, which was founded by Woody and Victoria Johnson in 1946. While the company was sold to the Tempe-based restaurant group in 2019, it will celebrate its 77th anniversary in September. The new restaurant offers everything from Tacos, chimichangas, and enchiladas to signature margaritas in souvenir ceramic mugs.
