Paquimex, a new fast-casual restaurant from the people behind Tortas Paquimé, is coming to Glendale this spring.

The restaurant, opening at 5149 W. Olive Avenue, will feature fast-casual versions of soulful dishes from restaurateur Omar Alvarez. The restaurant will offer the flavors of Alvarez’s home town of Casa Grandes, Chihuahua in a restaurant that’s designed to cater to the needs and budget of people on the go.

Alvarez’s restaurant group, TPQ Foods, best known for Tortas Paquimé and Pa’La Wood-Fired Kitchen, is opening Paquimex as an, “evolution of the Tortas Paquimé story”, according to a press release. The new spot will offer expanded alcoholic beverage offerings, service, and a streamlined menu of items that are not on the popular Tortas Paquimé menus.

In a statement, Alvarez explains the concept, saying, “Paquimex is a natural evolution of our roots. We wanted to build on the foundation of Tortas Paquimé while creating something that reflects how our company has grown. It’s rooted in the same flavors and traditions, but with a new energy and a format designed for where dining is today.”

A few months later, Alvarez plans to open Magdaleña, an upscale restaurant that will feature wood-fired dishes.
