The family-owned eatery Presidio Cocina Mexicana is getting ready to expand for the first time, with a new location opening soon off Seventh Street and Palm Lane, just north of McDowell Road at 2024 N. Seventh St.
The company’s second location is set to open less than two miles away from the original location, which opened in 2016 off Fifth Avenue and Thomas Road, according to Phoenix New Times. Owner Sergio Nava tells What Now Phoenix that the exact opening date is hard to determine, considering the restaurant owner is waiting on the liquor license approval but hopes to open by the end of April. While the exact menu for the second spot is still being finalized, diners can expect the same commitment to quality and tradition at the new Presidio Cocina Mexicana.
“The menu will be a little bit different — mainly just a couple of different dinner options at the new location, and we’ll take away some options from the old location to simplify that menu,” Nava tells Phoenix New Times. “The old location will probably predominantly be more breakfast and lunch oriented now, whereas the new one will have a little bit of all.”
While the menu for the company’s second location is still being finalized, it will be filled with family recipes largely inspired by Nava’s mother, Lucina Nava, who is a native of Michoacán. The new Presidio Cocina Mexicana will span 2,500 square feet, significantly larger than the original location, which is 950 square feet. The new site will feature a more Southwest-inspired design, with neutral and muted colors, creating a slightly more elevated atmosphere than the original, which has a quaint style. Both locations will also offer coffee and a full bar menu that includes premium tequila, cocktails, beer, and wine.
