Owners of The Whining Pig and Pigtails Cocktails are bringing a new concept to downtown Phoenix. Rough Rider, a restaurant and cocktail bar, will open in the basement of the Ten-O-One building in Roosevelt Row Arts District.

Ten-O-One, if you haven’t heard, is located at the corner of Roosevelt and Central and acts as ‘a true gateway’ to Phoenix’s funky arts district. The building is a mixed-use space that houses tech and creative offices, and, soon, the new eatery.

According to Mouth By Southwest, the new venue takes its name from Theodore Roosevelt’s famous calvary ride during the Spanish-American War, and its beverage menu will pull from the first cocktail book ever published in the US: “Bartender’s Guide.” The eatery’s menu, courtesy of Chef Jose Morales, will “offer dishes with Southern and soul food influences.”

We were unable to reach the owners at the time of publication, so you’ll want to check back in for an opening timeline. All I can say is cocktails and soul food sounds like a brilliant combination to me.
