Target held a soft opening May 12 for its new Buckeye store at 1355 N. Verrado Way. The store’s grand opening celebration is slated for Sunday, May 17. Target store is an important retail contribution to the growing Buckeye community and is the first to open in the city’s developing shopping destination, Verrado Marketplace.

The new Target store covers approximately 148,000 sq. ft. and is expected to generate over 140 jobs in the area. Customers will have access to services including Drive Up, Order Pickup, and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360. Target will also offer next-day delivery for Buckeye residents.

The store features Target Optical, CVS Pharmacy, Disney Store at Target, a Starbucks location, and Apple at Target. The store will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

5 More Target Stores Open This May

Target’s Buckeye-Verrado location is part of six new stores opening this May. The retailer is expanding in Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Five additional Target locations are scheduled to open Sunday:

  • Casa Grande Promenade: 951 N. Promenade Parkway, Casa Grande, AZ 85194
  • Missouri: University City Olive Boulevard: 8645 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63132
  • New Jersey: Jersey City Route 440: 381 Route 440, Jersey City, NJ 07305
  • North Carolina: Myrtle Grove: 5623 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412
  • Selma: 551 St. Mark Avenue, Selma, NC 27576

Some of the new stores are Target’s new grocery-style chain, offering more fresh produce, meat, and dairy options. Many of the new stores will also offer Drive Up, Order Pickup, same-day delivery, pharmacies, Starbucks locations, and Apple at Target sections.

Some stores offer services that appeal to the local community, in addition to the retail products mentioned. The custom mural for the University City store in St. Louis focuses on its cultural identity. The Myrtle Grove store in Wilmington will offer fresh food and a beach assortment for guests visiting nearby Carolina Beach.

The store in Selma is Target’s first in Johnston County. It will have a distinctive layout, with the grocery section at the back of the store.

Target’s Broader Expansion Strategy

The six new Target stores opening this May are part of the retailer’s overall strategy to open more than 30 new stores in 2026 and over 300 by 2035.

Five of the newly announced stores exceed the company’s average 125,000-square-foot footprint. This indicates that the company is targeting larger-format stores to provide a combination of in-store shopping and fulfillment capacity.

Target outlined $5 billion in capital investments for 2026 to enable long-term growth. The program features over 130 store remodels, employee payroll, and training initiatives designed to enhance customer service and operations throughout its 2,000-plus store locations.

Target said its stores now fulfill roughly 95% of the company’s digital orders. Same-day delivery via its Target Circle 360 service covers about 80% of the U.S. population. In addition to its retail growth, Target donated more than 84,500 hours of community service and more than $35.6 million to causes throughout Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey, and North Carolina last year.

“Our continued commitment to opening new stores is really about showing up for our guests and our communities — and it starts with our incredible store team members,” said Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo.

The new Target store is part of Verrado Marketplace, a mixed-use retail destination near Interstate 10 in Buckeye. The project is described as a significant shopping and lifestyle center for Buckeye and the West Valley.
