An antique store space will soon be a destination for desserts.
A new donut spot called Uniontown Baking Company is in the plans for 264 W Marine Drive in the city. It comes from Astoria local Glenn Taggart who has been wanting to debut the concept for about a year. He is shooting for an Oct. 1 opening date.
Taggart, now retired from the construction industry, wanted to continue working and start his own business. He retired younger, and he plans to give back to the community in another way. For the menu, he hired Kurt Rummel, a 2003 graduate of Western Culinary.
“We decided it was time to put the donut facility to use because the area does not have one,” Taggart said.
The team plans on baking donut staples like fritters, long johns and glazed options. Boxes of donuts will also be available, and those stopping by can also have their sweet treat inside as there is seating. As of now, they do not plan on serving drinks.
Donuts will be served at the building close to M & N Workwear clothing store, just west of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Uniontown Vintage is staying, and they are moving into the space next to it. This is also across the street from Workers Tavern, and Bridgewater Bistro is close at the pier.
Right now, it is early in the development stages for the donut shop. For more updates on Uniontown Baking and the opening date, visit their Facebook page.
