Vertical Diner has announced the permanent closure of its Portland location. The vegan restaurant will host its final dinner on June 14, marking the end of its 7 years. The restaurant’s original location in Salt Lake City, Utah, will remain operational.
Vertical Diner Set to Close After Seven Years of Service
Located at 8124 SW Barbur Blvd in Portland, Vertical Diner is a plant-based restaurant. It is known for serving vegan comfort dishes and all-day breakfast options. The team behind the restaurant announced its closure news on social media and wrote an emotional message.
“We will be closing the Portland location of Vertical Diner, and June 14th will be our last day of service. We have made long-term friendships, found family, and learned so much over the last 7 years,” said the restaurant on Instagram.
The team reflected on its journey in Portland from 2019. In the post, they cited rising costs and economic challenges as reasons for the closure.
“We wish we could continue to serve all of you, but the business has been economically challenging for a long time. We had planned to close years ago after the pandemic, but fell in love with our amazing customers and couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. At this time, the costs of operation are unsustainable,” said the team.
Restaurant’s Utah Location Will Remain Open
The Vertical Diner team has confirmed that its original Salt Lake City location in Utah will continue to serve its fans.
“We will continue to operate the Vertical Diner location in Salt Lake City, Utah, where we started it all in 1998. We hope we can serve you there someday!” added the team.
The Portland team encourages the community members to visit the restaurant and enjoy their favorite meal before its final day.
Additionally, the team is also looking for potential renters for the property. They shared, “Please let any restaurant owners know that our turnkey 4,500-square-foot restaurant space — with a huge parking lot and an efficiently designed layout — will be available for lease on July 1st. We can connect you with the building owners if you send us a direct message. It would also make an incredible food truck lot for the right visionary.”
