The Leaky Roof Tavern is opening in the space long occupied by The Leaky Roof Gastropub, an 80-year-old Goose Hollow institution at 1538 SW Jefferson St that shut its doors abruptly this past July. State business filings show different owners behind each version of the business, with Andrew Keith Fink tied to the original Gastropub and Agron and Roni Pervizi now listed as the operators behind the new Tavern.
The original Leaky Roof traces back even further than its brick-and-mortar debut, starting as a food cart in the 1940s before settling into its current building in 1947, where it became a fixture in the Goose Hollow neighborhood for generations. The pub built a loyal following for its original hardwood floors, wood-burning stove, deep Irish whiskey selection and a menu leaning on comfort dishes like chicken and waffles and Reuben sandwiches, drawing regulars well beyond the immediate neighborhood, including pre-game crowds heading to Timbers and Thorns matches nearby.
The closure itself caught the neighborhood off guard. A notice simply reading the pub “will no longer be open” appeared taped to the door in July, with no statement from ownership and no timeline given for what might come next, leaving longtime regulars and Reddit threads full of confused, nostalgic reactions in the days that followed.
No word yet on what the new Tavern concept will look like day to day, though the name change from Gastropub to Tavern suggests a slightly different direction for the space.
