According to a recent permit filing, Kau Kau aims to debut a new Alberta District location at 2026 NE Alberta Street.

Kau Kau started as a pop-up concept back in 2021, before moving into a brick-and-mortar location on SE Hawthorne. The SE Hawthorne location is now marked as closed as they looked for a new brick-and-mortar spot to call home.

Kau Kau’s website states, “We’ve had a blast bringing the love & aloha to Portland through our onolicious pop-up since 2021, & had an amazing spring & summer focusing on Kau Kau full time through our residency in SE.”

“Originally from ‘Oahu, married Chefs Tracee & Brandon created Kau Kau with a core focus centering around a diverse range of dishes, notably the cherished “Plate lunch” concept renowned in Hawaii– all executed with a meticulous emphasis on quality; a focus honed through decades of training in the culinary industry.”

“By showcasing the variety of different cultures within the islands, along with the influences we have had, it allows us to create our own renditions of these beloved dishes, contributing to setting a new standard for our cuisine on the Mainland & changing the perception of Hawaiian food in the Pacific Northwest.”

“Each menu features homestyle local Hawaii favorites– recipes we’ve learned how to cook through family generations, & have been fine-tuning with a spin of our own. Come try us out – stay up-to-date on pop-ups, chef collaborations & catering as we continue to search for our own brick-and-mortar space to call home.”
