A new activewear brand is heading to the Portland suburbs. Vuori is set to open a storefront this summer at Washington Square Mall as part of a broader retail expansion. The shopping center at 9585 SW Washington Square Rd is undergoing major improvements, including food court renovations and interior upgrades to refresh lighting, flooring, and common areas.
Vuori was built on a simple idea that men deserved activewear that worked as well at a coffee shop or on a hiking trail as it did at the gym. Founded in 2015 by Joe Kudla in Encinitas, California, they started with direct consumer sales and a single pop-up on the Southern California coast. The brand grew steadily before exploding into the mainstream in the early 2020s. In 2021, SoftBank Vision Fund 2 invested $400 million at a valuation of $4 billion, one of the largest investments ever made in a private apparel company.
The Washington Square location will be one of the brand’s first in the Portland metro area, bringing its signature West Coast aesthetic to one of Oregon’s busiest malls. According to The Oregonian, several other retailers are also slated to open or expand within the center, which also includes a future Dick’s House of Sport set to open in fall 2027. This reflects continued demand from national brands for physical retail space in high-traffic locations.
