All American Magic Shop is moving from Lloyd Center to Pioneer Place at 700 SW 5th Ave, with an opening targeted for the end of August, according to the owner, Mark Benthimer, who spoke with What Now Portland. The relocation comes as Lloyd Center prepares to shut its doors to the public on August 8, with all remaining tenants required to clear out by August 31 ahead of the site’s planned redevelopment.
Lloyd Center’s owner, Urban Renaissance Group, announced the closure earlier this year, citing a mall that has sat more than 90 percent vacant as it moves toward becoming a mixed-use neighborhood with thousands of new housing units. All American Magic joins other longtime tenants making the same move downtown, including Floating World Comics, which has also pointed to Pioneer Place as its next stop.
All American Magic has built a big community over the years as one of the few dedicated magic and novelty shops in the Portland area, drawing kids, hobbyists and performers alike. Owner Mark Benthimer told What Now that the shop is excited to keep bringing magic to Portland, adding that the Pioneer Place location will offer a wide selection of magic tricks, jokes and family-friendly fun.
