Phở House serves a variety of Asian dishes, including spring rolls, wonton soup, and vermicelli combos. The Carmichael Oaks Shopping Center-based eatery was found to have significant health violations on June 2. The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department mentioned details in its inspection report.

The report highlighted that Phở House had raw chicken on the bone thawing in a 2-compartment prep sink. The temperature was in the 68-74°F range, which was against the department’s limit of below 41°F or at or above 135°F.

Food inspectors noted dead adult Turkestan cockroaches at the restaurant. They reported food debris and grease accumulation behind cooking equipment. Areas around the water heater and refrigerators showed similar contamination. Additionally, soiled rags were left unsanitized.

The inspection report listed unused refrigeration units. It also mentioned holiday decor items near restrooms for customers.

India Village

This Sacramento restaurant offers patrons Indian and Nepali food. The Indian chefs prepare curries, crispy tandoori items, and Nepali momos. Other menu highlights at India Village are palak paneer, pakoras, lamb tikka masala, gulab jamun, etc.

India Village was found in violation of food safety regulations on June 2. Food inspectors of the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department noted major violations.

The employee restroom at India Village did not have paper towels. The soap dispenser was missing from its handwash sink.

Inspectors observed improper cooking and storage temperatures for several items, including samosas, lentil curry, and chicken curry. The inspectors informed the operator at the Sacramento eatery about the correct temperature.

Hot water at the three-compartment ware wash sink was below the mandated 126°F temperature.

The inspection report then emphasized several cleanliness issues at the Indian restaurant. Inspectors found food debris on vegetable peelers. It added Turkestan cockroach activity in the dry storage room and below the water heater. Dust on racks and other food prep areas was an issue as well.

The storage of raw chicken above vegetable samosas in the cooler presents a cross-contamination hazard.

Labels were missing from bulk food containers in India Village. The report added that it used a household Danby microwave, not a commercial NSF/ANSI one.

Inspectors found a damaged food processor hopper and door gaskets at the establishment.

The reach-in cooler at India Village did not have thermometers. CO₂ cylinders were not secured at the Indian and Nepali cuisine restaurants. Damaged cove base tiles and improper ventilation were also reported.

Based on the nature of the violations, Phở House and India Village received a yellow card. A reinspection may occur within 24 to 72 hours. Both Sacramento restaurants are required to take corrective action to address the violations. Compliance will allow them to receive a green card and avoid further penalties.
