A New Wine Bar and Gift Shop is Planned for Southside Park

A new business is planned to join Sacramento’s Southside Park neighborhood at 1200 S St., Suite B. Alma Wine Bar & Shop is operated by local cannabis attorney and wine enthusiast Melissa Sanchez. The business is currently in the permitting phase, but Sanchez hopes to open its doors by the end of August 2024.

Alma will occupy a 1,300-square-foot vacant space that shares a building with R & M Framing and Raphael Delgado Art Studio. The business will carry various wines from around the world. The wines will be available to purchase on-site by the glass or bottle or be purchased to go. While Alma will only offer small bites like charcuterie and salads, Sanchez plans to collaborate with local chefs and small food operators to develop pairing experiences.

Sanchez is a local cannabis attorney and co-founder of Harvest Law. When she is not wearing her attorney’s hat, Sanchez is deepening her passion, knowledge, and skills in different wines. When she connected with Fernando Pesquera, a former wine buyer from Taylor’s Market, plans to open a wine business together naturally fell into place.

Sanchez also plans to launch an educational program toward the end of 2024 with a scholarship program to help people of color advance their skills through wine certifications and other programs.
