An El Cerrito wine bar and bottle shop called Banter Wine is due to open this summer. Look for it at 10368 San Pablo Ave. in the former Handcraft Studio School. Since last September, owner Claire Sullivan has been hard at work with her fiance Devin Hohler to bring Banter Wine to life. Sullivan expects to finally open its doors in July

“We were having a glass of wine in the backyard at some point during the pandemic, and we thought El Cerrito would definitely benefit from a wine bar,” Sullivan told Eater SF. “We feel very excited to be opening up in that spot in the neighborhood and can’t wait to bring Banter to everyone.”

She hopes to fulfill a need for folks who would typically go all the way down to Oakland and San Francisco to visit their favorite wine spots. Banter Wine will have domestic wines, plus selections from France, Italy, and Spain. There will also be charcuterie, plus a rotating salad and sandwich on the menu, focusing on local, seasonal offerings.
