According to SFist, Tan Truong and Chef Geoffrey Lee are shuttering their eatery, Handroll Project — located at 598 Guerrero Street, near Delfina Restaurant, Good Good Culture Club, and Tartine Bakery — and have decided to continue using the space as an outpost for another of their dining concepts, Hamburger Project.
While an opening date for the Hamburger Project has not been announced yet, locals can expect to find smashburgers, fries, and soda pop on the menu once it does.
At its existing location at 808 Divisadero Street, smashburger options range from the Classic Burger (a beef patty topped with American cheese, diced white Onion, house sauce, and pickles) to the “Oklahoma” Fried Onion Burger (a beef patty topped with American cheese, sweet onion, house sauce, and peppadew peppers). There is also a “Wisconsin” Butter Burger on the menu (a beef patty topped with American cheese, sautéed onions, house Sauce, and whipped butter).
What Now San Francisco spoke briefly with Truong; however, more information could not be gathered before publication.
For readers who are unfamiliar with his work alongside Lee, Truong is also the owner of Ju-Ni, an intimate omakase restaurant in San Francisco’s North of the Panhandle neighborhood. Concerning the Handroll Project, now that its single location has closed, the fate of the concept is unclear.
