La Grullensa restaurant is preparing to close its doors after more than three decades of service. The longstanding family-owned Mexican restaurant in East San Jose will serve its final meal on May 24, closing the doors the following day. The restaurant team cited that the closure is due to circumstances beyond its control.
La Grullensa in San Jose to Close on May 25
Founded by the Galindo family, La Grullensa has been a neighborhood favorite spot since 1991. The space features an old-school vibe and a traditional Mexican menu.
In an Instagram post, the team shared an emotional message confirming the closure. “We will be closing the doors of our physical location on May 25th. Our last day of service will be May 24th,” said the team.
“For over 35 years, this place has been so much more than a restaurant—it has been a home filled with laughter, memories, and the incredible community that all of you helped build,” added the team.
The team also thanked the community and wrote, “We are deeply grateful for your support, your loyalty, and for allowing us to be a part of your lives. Every visit, every meal, and every kind word has meant more to us than we can truly express.”
