Matcha Magic is searching for a new Eastside location as it prepares to close its original cafe at 10246 Main St. in Old Bellevue on Nov. 1. Founder Rachel Barnecut told What Now Seattle the company has not selected a new address but is considering properties in Bellevue and Kirkland.
“When we opened Matcha Magic Bellevue, we knew that redevelopment was on the horizon—but it was a great way to test the waters to see how receptive the area would be to a matcha-centric cafe,” Barnecut said.
The closure comes as the property is slated for redevelopment. The North of Main project will replace the existing buildings with an eight-story development containing 176 apartments, ground-floor commercial space, and parking, Downtown Bellevue Network reported.
Matcha Magic began in Bellevue, where it opened its first cafe in the former Jujubeet space in May 2022. The brand has since expanded to Redmond, Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, New Orleans, and Tempe, Arizona.
The woman-owned business serves ceremonial matcha, lattes, smoothies, açaí bowls, and toasts. The matcha shop operates in partnership with Conscious Hospitality Group, whose portfolio also includes Just Poké, SUGO Handroll Bar, Sano, Haps Burgers, Wow Wow Lemonade, Mt. Joy, Club Seltzer, and the recently added Char the Chicken.
“I’m excited to hopefully find a space that works for us, because Bellevue was our first location, and the community is near and dear to my heart,” Barnecut said.
