It was sad news for crafters of all stripes when, early last year, the news broke that Joann, the enormous chain of fabric shops, was set to close all its stores before summer. 80 years old, with more than 800 stores in 49 states, the chain lost out to competitors like Michaels and Hobby Lobby, a retail analyst told NPR.

Now, all over the country, new brands are moving in to fill the gaps left behind by hundreds of Joann Fabrics stores. In the Plaza at Citrus Park, the shopping mall located at 12675 Citrus Plaza Drive in Tampa, one of the stores replacing Joann is Total Wine & More, the major beer, wine, and spirits chain.

Founded in 1991 by brothers David and Robert Trone in Delaware, Total Wine has expanded to stores all over the country.

“Total Wine & More is America’s destination for spirits, wine, beer and more, and the nation’s largest independent beverage retailer offering an unmatched selection at the lowest prices,” says the Total Wine website. “Our spacious stores feature more than 8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers, from everyday favorites to collectible bottles, supported by close relationships with producers, distillers and brewers around the world. Our commitment to selection, service and value has earned us national recognition from Wine Enthusiast, Market Watch and Newsweek for excellence in retail and customer experience.”

Total Wine & More is one of several new retailers opening in the Plaza at Citrus Park, after the plaza had “watched a string of tenants leave in recent years,” said coverage by the Tampa Bay Times, including “Joann Fabrics, which closed all its stores by May 2025, Party City, Honey Baked Ham Co. and, years before that, the anchor store Sports Authority.”

Other upcoming new tenants include Nordstrom Rack and HomeGoods.
