Founded in 2014 by designer Erik Wise, Urban Native is an apparel brand that “brings global traditions together with Coastal & Urban styling to create a fashion line that celebrates the diversity of international cultures through each design.”
Urban Native has called Westshore Plaza home since 2020, and now it’s preparing to move and start a new chapter at Countryside Mall, at 27001 US Hwy 19, Suite 1003, in Clearwater. The store will be situated near the upcoming Target store.
“[Urban Native] started with designing and creating out of my home,” Erik Wise told What Now on Saturday. “And it grew into a 3500-square-foot storefront with a studio attached. It’s been great, and I have nothing but positive things to say about my time at Westshore Plaza. This was an opportunity I didn’t expect.”
Wise says the brand has been drawn to Countryside Mall, with its considerable foot traffic and retail roster that, as the designer says, doesn’t have anything like Urban Native.
Beginning in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Urban Native’s retail life began as a kiosk at Westshore Plaza, selling face masks. Once the lockdowns eased up, the store opened, offering its vibrant apparel selection.
“The line is inspired by the vibrant colors and use of mixed prints throughout various African and international customs,” the website says. “Urban Native views fashion as art. Emotion, heart, passion and creativity combine with natural gemstones, organic fabrics, fine metals and patience to bring together exciting statement pieces. Erik has been honored to show his collections throughout the US, Latin America and West Africa.”
The new store will open on November 19, Wise says. The designer encourages the public to keep frequenting Westshore Plaza as well.
“There are still some great shops there. I encourage people to go and see.”
