Crema Gelato, a new Italian-inspired gelato shop, is preparing to open in Toronto at 597 Markham Street, within the Mirvish Village development.
The new concept is expected to open in early fall 2026, according to blogTO. Crema Gelato comes from Michael Marshall and chef Graziano Totora, who previously opened the Italian restaurant Carolina on Dundas West in 2024. The owners say the shop will focus on authentic Italian-style gelato and a customer experience inspired by neighborhood gelaterias in Italy.
Marshall and Totora developed the concept after traveling through Italy and exploring regional gelato shops. Marshall told blogTO that much of the inspiration came from the Amalfi Coast, where serving styles extend beyond a traditional cone or cup. The team plans to introduce offerings such as gelato served in a warm brioche bun topped with whipped cream, along with edible spoons commonly found in Italy.
The owners selected Mirvish Village after learning that several food and beverage concepts, including Italian restaurants, were preparing to open throughout the development. They believe the neighborhood’s growing collection of restaurants and cafes makes it a natural fit for the new business.
The menu will center on traditional Italian gelato made with high-quality ingredients, along with less common serving styles in Toronto. Rather than focusing only on the product itself, the owners hope to recreate the atmosphere they experienced while visiting gelato shops throughout Italy. The concept is designed to encourage customers to slow down and enjoy the experience as much as the dessert.
