The DC dining scene is closing out the year with a major arrival from a vegan heavy-hitter that is sure to delight plant-based diners and carnivores alike. PLNT Cafe, a new younger sibling to the already beloved PLNT Burger, will be making its debut on K Street before the end of 2026, reports the Washington Business Journal.
PLNT Cafe will be welcoming customers at 655 K Street NW, in the 1,521-square-foot storefront that previously housed Shouk. The space will have seating for up to 26 guests, allowing the PLNT team to pursue the next stage of the concept’s evolution, which co-founder Spike Mendelsohn describes saying: “We do want it to be the place where people can come and hang out. There’s a lot of fans of our brand, and they’ve never had a place to come and congregate, and we definitely see ourselves as that place.”
The “cafe” part of PLNT Cafe refers more to the environment than the menu. The concept will not be serving coffee, however the PLNT team wants this new endeavor to become a casual hang-out where folks can congregate and enjoy some delicious plant-based dining.
And while the community aspect will certainly draw in a crowd, the menu will be the real star. As readers can imagine, PLNT Burger focuses largely on the titular dish and other fast-casual favorites like chicken sandwiches and wraps. CEO Chris Treloar explains: “We really wanted to be able to open up the menu a bit to other, more interesting items. Really, we were kind of pigeon-holing ourselves with being just a burger restaurant.”
PLNT Cafe will invite customers to choose from a different range of dishes, including tacos, salads, and wraps.
PLNT Cafe does not have an opening date available yet, however the PLNT team plans to be customer-ready in November or December of this year.
