A Leesburg bookstore is preparing to turn the page and start a new beginning in a larger storefront. Birch Tree Books is relocating its assorted tomes and accessories to a fresh home, with fresh possibilities.
Fans of Birch Tree’s current 11 West Market Street location won’t need to worry about changing their travel route too much; the book store is headed to 9 West Market Street, the space which formerly housed District Hemp Botanicals.
Birch Tree Books’ co-owner Leah Fallon kindly made some time to speak to What Now DC about moving operations and the new opportunities it will create. Fallon explains that the relocation is the natural result of the shop’s growth-and an abundance of book clubs.
“We’ve been outgrowing our space…we host more than 15 book clubs in our main room, which means moving things around a lot.”
Fallon states that the Birch Tree team is already familiar with its upcoming new home. “We’ve been wanting to move for a while, and we would often use this space when we had events larger than we could accommodate.”
While Birch Tree and its customers may be ready for this new adventure, the space isn’t yet. Fallon says: “We are doing a build-out. We’ll have a dedicated plant clinic, public bathrooms, and we’re going to be wheelchair accessible.”
The 2,000 square foot storefront will also allow Birch Tree to add to its inventory. Fallon says the shop will be adding stationary and more cards to its sock.
Leesburg readers still have a bit of a wait between them and Birch Tree’s new home. Fallon says that she is hopeful that construction will start in October of this year.
