Red Rooster Tacos, the popular San-Bruno food truck and catering service, recently announced plans to open their first brick-and-mortar storefront, called Red Rooster Taqueria.

Red Rooster owner Hugo Santana also owns the Lightbox Café with his business partner Jo Kumery. The Lightbox Café, which opened during the peak of the pandemic, was forced to temporarily shutter in October 2020 due to complications from the raging California wildfires that were ravaging the state. Thankfully, The Lightbox was able to survive its temporary closure and recently held its Grand Reopening June 14th, freeing up Hugo to focus on expanding Red Rooster.

Hugo started Red Rooster back in 2012 after over a decade of working with his parents in their food truck. The experience endowed him with all the knowledge he needed to set on his own, and soon he was able to acquire a small fleet of trucks and full commercial kitchen and began putting his catering company on the map.

Unlike the average food truck, Red Rooster specializes in catering private events. Until now, it’s been difficult to get your hands on a Red Rooster taco unless your company was having it delivered for an event. Now though, after over 9 years of operation, Red Rooster is finally settling into its first brick-and-mortar location.

Red Rooster’s new sit-down taqueria will be soon be coming to 1225 San Mateo Avenue in San Bruno, currently the home of The Boneyard, a food truck catering company that specializes in barbecue food. The new location will feature an expanded menu as well as wine and beer offerings – a first for Red Rooster.

Hugo spoke to What Now San Francisco and revealed that while the new menu was still being finalized, he intends to open the location in early September. While you wait, consider visiting Lightbox Café at 221 main Street, San Francisco.
