Cosí‘s famous flatbread sandwiches are coming to Center City. The fast-casual chain will be replacing Pokéworks’ former location at 1035-1037 Chestnut St. in Philly. While Cosí’s lease for the 1,050 sq. ft. space began in October, representatives for the company were unable to confirm an opening date or additional details about the location.
The location will be a company-owned location and not a franchise of part Cosí’s licensing program, which allows licensees to use its branding and recipes as a caterer to sell food through third-party platforms like DoorDash, UberEats, and EZCater.
Drew Harré started Cosí after leaving West Aukland, New Zealand, and found that he couldn’t find a good sandwich while in Paris. He found the perfect bread recipe and opened a restaurant in Rue de Seine in 1989 and called it Cosí. It’s still a famous lunch spot today. Cosí was brought to New York City in 1996 by two brothers who fell in love with the Paris restaurant. Wikipedia reports that there are currently about 20 Cosí locations in the U.S. in New York, Washington D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. You’ll find melts, sandwiches, soups, salads, pizza, bowls, breakfast, and coffee on the eatery’s menu. Cosí also ships menu items directly to customers.
