Not only will you be able to satisfy your sweet tooth at Le Mignon bakery, but you’ll also have a new place for the kids to play. The 3,234 sq. ft. Creative European and Asian-inspired bakery/pay-to-play indoor toddler playground will open this summer at 300 W. Lancaster Ave. in Devon.
“We wanted to create this place for caregivers, moms and dads, grandparents and nannies who are taking care of the young kids who want somewhere to go and let the kids have fun, while at the same time sit down, have a drink, a piece of cake, and relax,” co-owner Lyssa Han told What Now Philadelphia.
Han, a mother of three small children ages 1, 3, and 5, was tired of having no options for entertaining her kids outside her home. She couldn’t find any indoor play or activity where she could take her small children that had a 20 minute or less drive.
“It drove me crazy,” Han told What Now Philadelphia. “So, we wanted to create a place somewhere around the Main Line where it’s easy to park and bring the kids, even when the weather is bad, to play and have some fun, and at the same time, we can also relax and have a coffee/chat with friends. We think Devon is the ideal space for us.”
Han partnered with pastry chef Noelle Shum, who also has two small children, to open Le Mignon, which means “The Cute,” and offers a nod to the adorable pastries and children that will soon be found in their shop. Half of Le Mignon’s space will be dedicated to the bakery, with seating tables for customers to sit and enjoy cafe drinks and gourmet desserts. But you won’t find oversugared frosting or high fructose corn syrup confections in this bakery. Le Mignon will focus on high-end pastry made from quality ingredients, with gluten-free flourless options as well.
Shum fell in love with baking when she studied in France and operated a very successful bakery when she returned to China. Since coming to the U.S. seven years ago, she has been working on improving the product quality and expanding her product line to U.S. customers. Shum will bring both her American, Asian, and European influences to Le Mignon to create new flavors and textures in dishes like Basque Cake, a Spanish dessert that can be made with an Asian twist like matcha, Earl Grey, sweet potato, and durian flavors. Le Mignon also hopes to serve brunch sometime in the future.
The other half of the Devon space will house the pay-to-play room. Moms, dads, grandparents, nannies, and other caretakers will accompany young who can have fun in a soft floor room that’s filled with high-quality, carefully curated toys from around the world. Many of the toys will help children develop their fine motor, cognitive, and physical skills. Most of the toys are made of wood, so parents can feel good about their children learning while playing with safe materials. Safety will be top priority in Le Mignon’s playroom. Toys found in the playroom will also be available for purchase, along with a selection of children’s clothing and apparel from places like Spain, Japan, and France. The playroom is also available to rent for parties, and outside food can be brought in.
“We feel that Le Mignon will be a one-stop-shop for cake-lovers, caregivers, and their kids,” said Han.
Han and Shum hope to begin construction on their store soon to get things ready for their June or July opening. Brett Furman Group owns the property.
