Kumo, a Japanese-inspired sandwich shop is inching toward opening after city permitting delays which pushed their Summer 2021 opening plans into 2022. The sandwich shop will join Plaza Sorrento shopping center, situated next to Aldi market.
Co-Owner Messiah Williams tells What Now San Diego the delays allowed the Kumo team to finalize their menu and establish local partnerships.
Williams let us in on some of their upcoming menu items, featuring recipes created by co-owners Jeyme Araki and Victor Ly. Kumo will serve a fruit and cream sandwich, Menchi beef and pork, and a Chicken Katsu with Jidori chicken, “the Wagyu of chicken,” as Williams describes it.
Their most popular choice is anticipated to be their Tamago-style egg sandwich. They’ll also serve side dishes like potato salad, and a Matcha-forward beverage menu. Kumo has teamed up with Amy Truong of fellow San Diego business, Paru Tea Bar, for high-quality Matcha. They’ll introduce a collection of Matcha drinks and lattes, with an option to add boba.
