According to a press release, Retrograde Coffee will be a part of Germantown’s newest luxury mixed-use development, Starling, in the spring of next year. This marks the brand’s third location in Music City and the first cafe in Nashville to front the Cumberland River Greenway.
Located at 820 4th Ave N., the new building will feature a greenway path to directly connect pedestrians with the 17,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space planned for Starling. Retrograde will also join Social Cantina as one of the first tenants announced for the space. With residential units planned to open first in January 2024, the development is sure to bring plenty of foot traffic to the new restaurants next year.
Retrograde Coffee was founded in 2018 when founders Nathan Weinberg partnered with Steve Mabee and Davey Row-Mabee to open their first location on Dickerson Pike. Known for its locally roasted coffees, artisan pastries, house-made sourdough bagels and sandwiches, Retrograde’s third location will partner with Nashville bartender and bar owner Jamie White to curate the bar program and create an authentic “house bar,” as stated in the release.
“Retrograde Coffee has become a place where people can slow down and spend time with their community,” said Steve Mabee in the release. “Our location at Starling is being thoughtfully designed to not only function as an amenity for Starling’s residents, but also for the whole neighborhood.”
