Angry Pete’s, a Detroit-style pizzeria that offers other Motor City specialties, is opening a new location in Kearny Mesa at 5335 Overland Ave.
The company’s third brick-and-mortar will move into the former home of a freestanding Taco Bell at the corner of Overland Avenue and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard by the end of the year, according to the company’s social media. The fast-growing pizza company opened its second location in Santee Lakes late last year, expanding from its flagship site in Point Loma. Owner Pete Harbison also operates Angry Pete’s from Lakeside Little Miss Brewing and Poway Little Miss Brewing.
When Angry Pete’s opens later this year, customers can expect full, four-slice Detroit-style pizzas made in 8″ x 10″ pans. Each pie is hand-crafted in steel pans with crispy caramelized cheese edges and light, fluffy dough with 80% hydration. The restaurant offers various Detroit-style pizzas, from classics to fusion-style options, such as the carne asada pizza, made with carne asada, salsa quemada, minced onions, cilantro, and lime.
This will be an excellent spot for the company’s third location, considering it is only a block from the Kaiser Permanente and Easting Park. Angry Pete’s will be surrounded by other fast-casual eateries, but none of which are pizza-related, giving the company a greater chance of getting customers in its doors. Despite the lack of pizza competition nearby, the restaurant will have to compete with Long Island Mike’s, Mr. Moto, and Filippi’s for the best pizza in Kearny Mesa.
