Philadelphia “Blade Runner” fans will soon be able to combine their love of the science-fiction classic with a passion for ramen. Glu Hospitality is opening Chika Ramen Bar, a restaurant inspired by the beloved genre film, in Rittenhouse Square later this year, reports The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The futuristic, cyber-punk ramen bar will occupy 2,000 square-feet at 1526 Sansom Street. Chika Ramen Bar will be the downstairs neighbor of another Glu Hospitality business, Bagels & Co.
Glu co-founder Derek Gibbons explains the inspiration behind the high-concept noodle eatery, stating “”We’ve always wanted to do a ramen shop, being from NYC late-night ramen shops are always go-to spots after a night out. When we first toured the space it just felt like the perfect place.”
Industry veteran, Chef Dean Leevongcharoen, will provide the cuisine, which will feature seaweed salad, edamame, marinated chashu pork, shiitake, menma, and red pickled ginger. Michael Ego will supervise the Chika Ramen Bar’s beverage program, which will include wine, beer, and cocktails.
The decoration of Chika Ramen Bar will mimic the neon lights and reflective surfaces of the classic 1982 movie. The restaurant will offer seating for up to 48 customers. Guests will have a variety of seating options, and will be able to choose between sitting at the bar, one six-top table, six two-top tables, two four-top tables, and two eight-top tables.
Chika Ramen Bar will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 4 pm to midnight, excluding Mondays. Additionally, the restaurant will be open from 4 pm to 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays once Chika begins serving customers later this fall.
