Sayulitas Mexican Food, a popular Mexican-Filipino fusion restaurant in San Diego, is getting ready to open a new location in City Heights at 4126 University Ave.

The company’s sixth location is set to move into the former home of Cali Fresh Mexican Grill, according to a recent permit application that is still in review. Owner Rosalinda Flores tells What Now San Diego that she hopes to open the new City Heights location early next month. This is just one of two locations the company expects to open this year, as Flores tells What Now San Diego that she hopes to open a second location in Las Vegas by the end of the year.

In a city defined by its plethora of Mexican food options, Sayulitas Mexican Food has separated itself from the pack with its hot cheeto-infused creations and arm-length burritos. The fast-growing Mexican restaurant offers a variety of delicious authentic Mexican entrees and sides, ranging from breakfast burritos to a $100 burrito challenge found at the Las Vegas location. For dessert, the company has a sister restaurant called Lunas Lunpias, found in Poway.

Those who don’t want to wait a few weeks for the new City Heights location to open are welcome to try one of the other sites throughout San Diego. Sayulitas Mexican Food, established in San Diego in 2015, already has locations in Otay Mesa West, Southcrest, Santee, Mira Mesa, and San Marcos, as well as in Las Vegas, not too far from the strip. All locations are traditional and unique quick-service restaurants featuring a salsa bar.
