Bock, a brand new German-inspired neighborhood bar, is preparing to debut in South Park at 1517 30th Street.
The new concept will replace Hamilton’s Tavern, which closed after a fire that also took South Park Brewing Company, according to SD Beer News. Once owners determined the concept was not returning, Brian Jensen, the owner of Bottlecraft and Vino Carta Wine Store, vowed to bring life back to the space with Bock, which translates to “Goat.” Customers can expect craft beer, served out of 30-40 direct draw draft lines, as well as wine and quality cider. Bock is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025.
While quality ales and lagers will be the focus, the new concept will have a lot more to offer than only European beers. For food, chef Matt Schooner will create a unique menu for Bock that will be heavily German-inspired, with dishes influenced by cities like Berlin, Munich, Bamberg, and Frankfurt. Some items on the menu include a Bamberger, Currywurst, Kofta Kebab Sandwich, and Zucchini Falafel Sandwich. Finally, Jensen is working with Helvey Design Studios and Simbiotek to really elevate the space into a welcoming neighborhood bar.
“Bock is what happens when a team of veteran beer people get together to build the kind of place they want to enjoy a cold one (or three) in,” according to the company’s website. “COVID-19 took a lot of great beer bars across America from us — our goal is to even the score, at least a little bit.. Food borrowing from great late-night traditions in Europe will be served alongside these beverages. Bock will feature some fun and games, too. Be it pool, shuffleboard, local and international sports — we aim to be the kind of neighborhood bar you fondly call your favorite.”
