A new concept featuring ski-lodge-style bar complete with a yurt has been proposed for the Arts District. Paperwork was submitted to the Las Vegas Planning Commission this month for Viking Mike’s, a new bar referred to in the paperwork as “a distinctive destination that combines the rustic charm of a ski lodge with the cozy, communal experience of a Yurt,” which would open at 1500 S Main Street.

Behind the project is Las Vegas restaurateur Jerad Howard, part of the team that co-won the Great Las Vegas Coffee Shop Giveaway with their Dinette Luncheonette concept.

“The lodge and Yurt will encompass a combined 3,226 square feet of interior space, supplemented by an additional 975 square feet of outdoor area,” says a justification letter submitted to the Planning Commission. “The Yurt, a traditional structure with modern amenities, will be constructed towards the rear of the existing building, providing an intimate and inviting space for patrons. This project is designed to complement the artistic and cultural character of the 18B Arts District while providing a new and engaging experience for residents and visitors alike.”

What Now reached out to Jerad Howard on Wednesday to inquire about plans for Viking Mike’s. Howard was not immediately available for comment.

“The 18B Arts District, where our project is located, has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade,” the letter says. “This area has evolved into a vibrant community hub with an eclectic mix of bars, restaurants, art galleries, and residential spaces. Viking Mike’s will contribute to this dynamic environment by offering a distinctive destination that combines the rustic charm of a ski lodge with the cozy, communal experience of a Yurt.”
