A new bakery serving pastries, chocolates, fresh bread, ice cream, wine and beer is being renovated on the Upper East Side.
A representative for Birl3y Bakery recently appeared before Community Board 8 to present their petition for a wine, beer and cider application.
The representative mentioned that this bakery will be affiliated with serial entrepreneur Robin Birley. Birley has a nightclub empire in the UK and is currently working on a 12,000 square-foot members-only club at 840 Madison Avenue. The team applied for a liquor license application in late 2022 for that location. Only a few will have the opportunity to wine and dine in that space, but Birley Bakery will be open for all.
Birley Bakery is coming to the space that formerly housed Poppi. According to the representative present at the community board meeting, that storefront is being combined with a neighboring nail salon that closed recently.
Renovations will turn the space into a two-story establishment with retail options on the ground floor. The upstairs will have some seating options and the bakery will be ADA accessible. Birley Bakery plans to utilize the sidewalk café that Poppi had before. It will be open seven days a week until 9 p.m.
There is no confirmed opening timeline for Birley Bakery at this time. Check their Instagram page for updates.
