A new coffee shop is brewing in Bartlett.

The Pharmacy Coffeehouse will soon open in the Memphis suburb at 5675 Stage Rd, taking over the 2,400-square-foot space that formerly housed Regel Pharmacy. After nearly 50 years in business, the pharmacy filled its last prescriptions in November of 2024 following the retirement of its founder, Dr. Bill Regel.

This new venture comes from three Bartlett couples who acquired Side Porch Steakhouse in 2021: Stephanie and David Reaves, Jan and Jeff Jones, and Emily and David Cook.

The group announced the news on social media earlier this week. “It’s time to spill the beans😉,” they wrote. “We can’t wait to introduce you to amazing coffee, yummy treats, & our cozy space! The hope of our Hometown Ventures team is that this space offers you a place to meet friends, family & co-workers, grow friendships, and cultivate community! Lett’s Gooooo Bartlett!! ❤️💙

In a phone interview with What Now Memphis, Jan Jones said that the idea for the coffeehouse has been in the works for three years. “In our team of six, we have some dreamers,” she explained. “We’re constantly thinking of ways to help build community in our city and help neighbors find neighbors.”

When the team got a call from Dr. Regal’s son, Josh, informing them that his father was ready to retire and sell the building, it felt like the perfect opportunity to turn their dream into reality.

The Pharmacy Coffeehouse will focus on local products, with baked goods and other items sourced from trusted partners like Barefruit Cafe, with whom they’ve previously collaborated at Side Porch. The team also plans to meet with regional roasters until they find the perfect coffee match.

The Pharmacy Coffeehouse is currently undergoing renovations and is slated to open in the spring of 2025. For sneak peeks, follow the café on Facebook and Instagram.
