Last spring, What Now Memphis reported that the historic Hotel Pontotoc in downtown Memphis would soon be transformed, though details of the new concept had not yet been finalized. Now, plans are officially in motion.

Partners Tony Kuhn and Joseph Lewis, who acquired the three-story building at 69 East Pontotoc Ave for $1.2 million in 2022, are converting it into a mixed-use space. Construction is currently in progress.

According to The Commercial Appeal, the lower two levels—which span 3,500 square feet—will house The Dame, a cocktail and wine bar offering a limited food menu, including charcuterie. The top two floors will be dedicated to a 10-room boutique hotel, which will retain the name Hotel Pontotoc.

The revamped space—which has previously served as a bordello, Turkish bath, recording studio, nightclub, and private residence—will blend history and luxury, featuring newly remodeled black-and-white accents and other elegant touches.

The venue will also boast an outdoor garden space—just steps away from The Dame—perfect for live music, corporate events, and even weddings.

The Dame is slated to open in the spring of 2025, while Hotel Pontotoc is expected to reopen later this year.
