According to a recent permit filing, Super King Buffet will reopen its doors in the Mount Scott area at 5015 SE 82nd Ave.

“I don’t have an official opening date as of yet, but it will likely be later this year,” Yong Huishi, the owner, told What Now Portland.

Super King Buffet was previously open at the same location according to Google, but has since been marked as closed. According to Loop Net, the property holds around 11,000 square feet of space. It was originally up for leasing in June of 2021.

Once the proud home of the Organ Grinder, the angular building at the intersection of Southeast Raymond Street was more than just a pizzeria; it was a portal to the past. Operating from 1973 to 1996, this 1890s-themed establishment became synonymous with its centerpiece: a colossal 1927 Wurlitzer organ. This majestic instrument, reminiscent of the silent movie era, held a unique allure.

In more recent times, the building transformed once again, hosting the Super King Buffet, an Asian restaurant that, like many, faced the challenges posed by the pandemic and eventually closed its doors.

Shi claims to be the leaseholder and envisions a revival for the space as the “Super King Buffet II.” Shi’s journey mirrors that of many entrepreneurs who navigated the tumultuous waters of the pandemic. He recounts closing his restaurant due to the scarcity of manpower required to keep it afloat during those challenging times. Now, however, Shi stands poised for a renaissance, ready to embark on a new culinary adventure, according to Willamette Week’s article.

The buffet offered a daily lunch and dinner option, with one of the standout offerings being dim sum classics like Lotus Leaf Wrapped Sticky Rice. Super King offered an expansive salad bar, sushi bar, and soup bar as well. Of course, classics like fried rice and pot stickers to signature dishes like calamari, honey walnut shrimp, and orange chicken had their place at the buffet, according to USA Today.
