According to the company website, Fish and Rice will be relocating from its NW location to a new location at 15 NE 18th Ave.
A representative of Fish and Rice was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Portland’s request.
While an official opening date for the new location, and its specific address have yet to be confirmed, the website states that Fish and Rice is temporarily closed.
In a recent Instagram post from Fish and Rice, they stated they are eager to reopen but are still waiting on the necessary permits. The post also features photos of what the crew is up to, such as construction efforts and fun moments of the process.
Fish and Rice is a casual Japanese-inspired counter-service restaurant that has mastered the art of taking its food and service seriously while keeping everything else delightfully laid-back. They are stated to have earned their reputation by offering an array of sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and poke bowls.
For those that are unfamiliar, Nigiri consists of a small mound of vinegared rice, typically hand-formed by skilled sushi chefs, and topped with a thin slice of fresh seafood. The word “nigiri” itself means “hand-pressed,” and this technique allows the rice to subtly absorb the flavors of the seafood, creating a harmonious balance of taste and texture.
Sashimi consists solely of slices of raw fish, skillfully cut, and often elegantly presented. The focus here is entirely on the seafood’s natural flavor and texture, typically served with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
