Van Leeuwen’s ‘good-good’ ice cream was first scooped out of yellow truck on the streets of New York. The ice cream shop, which debuted back in 2008, has since grown into a popular purveyor frozen sweets. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream can be found in New York, California, Texas, New Jersey, and, most recently, right here in Philly.

Following the August opening of their Midtown location, Van Leeuwen reportedly has plans to open two additional Philly stores, in Rittenhouse Square and Fishtown. The former will set up shop in a 200 square-foot storefront at 115 S 18th St, while the latter is headed to an undisclosed location on Frankford Ave. The Frankford Ave. space is 600 square-feet.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream believes in the happiness (and healthiness) of good, simple ingredients. “What could be happier than that magic combination of milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar (or coconuts, cashews and oats for our vegan friends)?” Asks the company’s website, “Yes, our ice cream has fat. And that’s okay. It’s good-good, not good-bad.”

The scoop shop has become known for flavors like honeycomb, earl grey tea, and Sicilian pistachio. They even serve, if you’re brave enough, a limited edition Kraft Macaroni & Cheese flavor. In anticipation of its Philly location, Van Leeuwen partnered with Federal Donut to create a Strawberry Lavender Donut flavor.

Both shops are set to open in the first quarter of 2022. But lucky for you, you don’t have to wait to get your hands on some of that good-good stuff. Head over to 119 S 13th St. to try it today.
