Chef Joey Maggiore has yet another great concept coming soon to the Valley. The Italiano will be an elevated Italian restaurant located in Scottsdale, where it will take over a former dry cleaners space at 9301 E. Shea Blvd. on the southeast corner with 92nd Street.

The Italiano will be a modern trattoria with decor that will convey casual elegance. The menu will include items such as fresh handmade ravioli and gnocchi, plus regional desserts such as torta della Nonna from Tuscany, baked cassata from Sicily, and bubba run from Naples.

“We are taking a little bit from each region of Italy to make this restaurant,” Maggiore tells AZ Central, adding that it’s largely inspired by travels in Italy that he shared with his late father, Tomaso Maggiore. “Everything we do is all dedicated to him,” he says.

Born and raised in Sicily, Italy, the elder Maggiore opened his first restaurant with wife Patricia in 1977 on the Camelback Corridor. Tomaso’s restaurant eventually became a Valley institution, earning the title of Best Italian Restaurant in the Valley for many years.

Tomaso Maggiore’s efforts and success as a local Valley restaurateur and chef set the foundation for what would become The Maggiore Group, as he inspired and helped his son to open his own restaurants. Today, the group is also known for Valley restaurants such as Hash Kitchen, The Sicilian Butcher, The Sicilian Baker, and The Mexicano.

The Italiano will be the group’s sixth offering when it debuts in early 2023. They will also open an Italian rotisserie called The Rosticceria by the end of this year
