With its lakeside views and laidback atmosphere, The Lazy Jack was a popular restaurant at the Lakeshore Landing complex next to South Shore Harbor until the restaurant closed a few years ago. Permit filings with the City of New Orleans indicate the space is undergoing non-structural renovations that include pressure washing, painting and general refurbishing. Those permits have been filed by prominent local restauranteur and businessman Henry Coaxum Jr. Permit filings also indicate plans to open a restaurant, bar and grill.
While it was open, The Lazy Jack won praise for its covered patio bar with scenic views of Lake Pontchartrain and the adjacent marina. The family-friendly and pet-friendly restaurant had a small food menu of pub grub and live music on the weekends. Despite the good vibes, the restaurant was caught up in a multi-million-dollar development scandal that involved the late developer Roland Von Kurnatowski. The former owner of Tipitina’s was reportedly under investigation from the FBI before he suddenly died in September 2019.
