Mo’ Bettahs, a Hawaiian-style eatery, is set to open its second Texas location early next year. The restaurant will open in Plano at 1701 Preston Rd.

Mo’ Bettahs opened its first Texas location this month at 6471 E. Northwest Hwy., suite 100, in Dallas. The brand was planning to open its Plano location this month, as well, but have pushed it back to late January 2022, per a Community Impact report.

Founded in 2008 by brothers Kimo and Kalani Mack, the Utah-based brand serves authentic Hawaiian style food as a “plate lunch.” The brothers grew up in Oahu, Hawaii, and the concept comes from plantation workers eating outside in dusty pineapple or sugar cane fields. The brand aims to give guests an authentic Hawaiian island experience, allowing them to fill their opu (stomach) with ono (delicious) island food.

“Hawaiian food culture is a diverse mixture of many races and food preparation styles. The Mo’ Bettahs menu reflects Hawaii staples that are Kimo and Kalani’s favorites and more than just ordinary fast-food,” a statement on the brand’s website reads. “It is food that is filling and will help you find the strength to do whatever is on your agenda for the day.”

The menu is pretty simple. Guests are able to build their plate lunch by choosing one or more proteins such as Teriyaki Chicken, Shrimp Tempura, or Kalua Pig – a smoky, salty pork option that is slow roasted for over 10 hours until tender. The meat is served with steamed white rice and macaroni salad.

Mo’ Bettahs is part of the Savory Restaurant Fund, a Utah-based restaurant investment group that includes brands such as Hash Kitchen, The Crack Shack, Via 313.

Since its start, Mo’ Bettahs has expanded to over 25 locations in Utah and Idaho. According to a release, more locations are being planned for the Lone Star State, including Frisco Lakes, Fort Worth, and Mansfield.
