Founder of Santa Fe Cookie Co., Debbie Kuehn had been a local legend with her cookies until she suddenly passed away in 2017. Kuehn was known for baking three-for-a-dollar cookies that were meant to turn peoples days around. Her cookie shop worked with an old-school “honor system” where customers were able to drop a dollar into a jar and pick up a little bag of cookies.
Debbie Kueh’s niece Alexis McLean kept the business running even after Kueh’s passing, but the pandemic proved to be difficult on the business and Santa Fe Cookie Co. ended up having to shut down last May.
The shop is now looking to reopen through a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe. Here is the link if you would like to contribute to their reopening. “Your donation will help the bakery with costs to reopen including ingredients, new lease, minor equipment (we were forced to leave large equipment at the former location), and moving costs,” writes Alexis McLean on their GoFundMe page.
McLean is looking to reopen Santa Fe Cookie Co. with the same format it first started as: a shop that operates through an honor system, where locals can come pick-up cookies 1-2 days a week by dropping money into a jar. Customers will also be able to buy the shop’s delicious treats (cookies, brownies and cupcakes) through their online delivery system the rest of the week.
A representative wasn’t available to comment on where their new shop will be located, but we’re looking forward to an announcement soon.
