Work has officially begun on what promises to be one of the more exciting restaurants to open its doors in Mississippi in 2027. Construction is under way on The Lady May’s new Madison location, where locals will soon be able to enjoy the “celebration of family and the traditions that have been passed down through generations” that Ocean Springs diners already know and love.
The restaurant is being erected on Main Street, behind The Bridal Path and near the Madison Parkway and Main Street intersection. The passion project of restaurateurs Chris McDonald and Will Taylor, The Lady May will be occupying part of a shared 9,500 square foot building.
The Lady May’s menu strives to recreate the comforting cuisine of a grandmother’s kitchen, pulling from McDonald and Taylor’s heritages. The website describes the restaurant’s fare as a “blend of these two family cooking styles, with influences from both Italian Catholic and Southern cuisine. From fried chicken to scratch biscuits to homemade jam and pepper jellies, every dish has a touch of nostalgia and reminds us of the flavors our grandmothers used to create in their kitchens.”
While many restaurants would be content with serving great food in a welcoming environment, The Lady May has even more up its sleeve. The concept also features a general store that offers a range of products, but has a strong emphasis on tallow and tallow products.
While an exact opening date is not yet available, developer Nick Bradshaw believes that The Lady May could be open as soon as next summer. A late July Facebook post from Madison the City Business Network offers further support for this timeline; it states that construction is happening and includes a picture of the site where signage showing renderings of the restaurant is up, stoking enthusiasm in area foodies.
