The Aviator, a vintage-inspired restaurant and bar that pays homage to the golden age of flying, is preparing to debut in Los Angeles at 7459 Melrose Ave.

The new concept is set to move into the former home of Blackbird Pizza Shop, according to a recent liquor license application. Owner Alex Hill tells What Now Los Angeles that the company aims to open in Spring 2025 but couldn’t give an exact opening date. The restaurant’s theme will capture the elegance and adventure of mid-century air travel, creating an immersive experience for guests. Customers can expect American cuisine with a twist, blending classic flavors with modern creativity.

Additionally, a few nights a month, The Aviator will host Destination Nights, where the concept will transport its passengers to a different locale—such as Cairo Night or Amsterdam Night—showcasing a special dish from that region. The new restaurant will sit between Umbrella taCO and 7455 SUSHI by Roshi, becoming one of the many new restaurants coming to the busy Melrose Avenue. Hills tells What Now Los Angeles that he and his team are excited to bring this unique concept to Melrose Ave.

The Aviator is expected to thrive in this location, given the high foot traffic on this street, which features a variety of retail options like Wasteland and the Zephyr Theatre. Hill and his team are optimistic that their unique aviator-themed concept will contribute to revitalizing this part of Melrose Avenue, especially as it faces a handful of business closures, including Ubunto and Cookes N’ Kicks. Other unique businesses nearby include Rocketship Coffee and the Melrose Umbrella Company.
