Broken Spanish Comedor has been named one of the best new restaurants in Bon Appetit’s 2026 list. It is one of 19 restaurants from across the country included in this year’s selection.
Broken Spanish Comedor is located at 12565 Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles. The restaurant is a new concept from Chef Ray Garcia, who previously operated Broken Spanish before it closed in 2020. The new restaurant opened in 2025 and is a more casual and neighborhood-focused version of the former concept.
The restaurant continues Garcia’s inventive approach to Mexican cooking. Its menu includes refried black lentils with quesillo, hand-pressed tortillas, ceviche, aguachile, enchiladas, barbacoa, and camote with salsa macha butter.
Bon Appétit describes the restaurant as a new chapter for Garcia. It speaks of the restaurant’s bold, flavorful food and its relaxed yet confident atmosphere. Bon Appétit also highlights dishes like the coal-roasted Japanese sweet potato, creamy refried lentils, and bay scallop aguachile as some of the key menu items.
Chef Garcia also shared the news on social media. “We are so so so excited to share the amazing news. The Comedor has been named one of @bonappetitmag’s Best New Restaurants in 2026,” reads the post.

Bon Appétit Best New Restaurants 2026 list features 19 restaurants from across the country. These are restaurants that have opened between March 2025 and March 2026. Broken Spanish Comedor’s inclusion in the list gives it recognition beyond the Los Angeles restaurant market.
In California, Broken Spanish Comedor was joined on Bon Appétit’s 2026 list by three other restaurants: Jules and Maria Isabel in San Francisco and Little Mountain in Montecito.
