Durant’s Steakhouse, a longtime favorite located in Phoenix at 2611 N Central Avenue, has been acquired by the acclaimed Steak 44 and Ocean 44 restaurant group.
Steak 44 and Ocean 44 are high-end restaurants owned by the Mastro family, which is known for its success in the luxury dining industry. Now, the team, led by brothers Mike and Jeffrey Mastro, along with their father Dennis Mastro and business partner Scott Troilo, officially announced the purchase of Durant’s Steakhouse late last month, according to InBusiness Phoenix. The Arizona-based steakhouse brand has built a strong reputation for offering top-tier steakhouse fare in an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere, making it a natural fit to take over Durant’s legacy.
Although the renovation timeline hasn’t been announced yet, the restaurant will temporarily close as the new ownership makes updates to align with its brand. Durant’s fans can expect an improved dining area, a revamped menu, and the quality that has made Steak 44 and Ocean 44 renowned in fine dining. Open since 1950 and operated by the same family, this upscale steakhouse has been serving steak, seafood, and martinis in its vintage red velvet setting for over 74 years, including access through the famous kitchen back door.
“Carol and I, Durant’s second generation, have been blessed through the years,” Jack M. McElroy, current owner of Durant’s Steakhouse, said in a prepared statement. “Now, as Durant’s newest era begins, led by the extraordinary team of Jeff and Mike Mastro. With their leadership and with the support of the Durant community that has walked through the famous backdoor for the last 75 years, we are confident that Jack Durant’s ‘Finest, Eating, and Drinking, Establishment in the World’ will continue to be the place of celebration for the most important group in our hearts…our guests, our friends, … the Durant’s Family, as The Legend Continues.”
