Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn is heading to Birkdale Village, according to an announcement made in September regarding new tenants heading to the Huntersville shopping center.
It will join other tenants, including Sweetgreen and Raleigh-based Mon Macaron. While there was no timeline released for the popcorn spot’s opening, What Now Charlotte previously reported that Sweetgreen representatives shared that the new Sweetgreen will open next year.
Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn has expansion plans lined up throughout the state. It plans to open a spot in North Hills in Raleigh on Oct. 18, as well, according to the Triangle Business Journal.
CEO Ginger Frank first launched the brand in 2014 as a small shop in Asheville.
“Her mission was clear: use real ingredients, only create flavors that are different from anything else you can find and make it fun,” the Poppy website states.
During the pandemic, the shop closed and Frank shifted her focus to wholesale, selling her popcorn to major retailers such as Whole Foods. However, the brand is now shifting back to opening Poppy locations.
Customers can expect to find unique popcorn flavors and potentially snacks like popcorn balls at the brick-and-mortar locations. Poppy Handcrafted Popcorns sells seasonal flavors, savory flavors like pimento cheese and dill pickle, and sweet flavors like salted caramel. There are also signature mixes, such as the Asheville Mix and the Poppy Mix.
